SYRACUSE This Saturday, Feb. 18, Thornden Park will be the scene of two great winter events.
The first is the Thornden Park Association's annual Chili Bowl Festival taking place in the Field House from noon to 4 p.m. This fundraiser for the all-volunteer Thornden Park Association, a non-profit corporation, raises money that is used exclusively for park improvements, supporting park events, programming and encouraging use of the park.
Four delicious varieties of chili are offered as single bowls for $3 or smaller servings of all four for $6. A crowd favorite is the original recipe "Syracuse Chili" that features local ingredients like Gianelli Sausage, NY Bold Onions and Middle Ages Syracuse Pale Ale. There is also home-brewed root beer, coffee and cocoa to wash down your chili, and corn bread muffins for a little something on the side.
The second event is the Central New York Disc Golf Association's Ice Bowl 2012 with all proceeds benefiting the Salvation Army Food Pantry. Thornden Park offers a dramatic setting for the temporary 18-hole course. The Entry Fee is $20 plus two non-perishable food items.
The first 50 to register will receive a 2012 special Ice Bowl Roc disc. Same day registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with tee-off at 10 a.m.
