Delee 3-pointer to win it at buzzer rims out
Kavon Delee had the look, from 20 feet out, and he took it, a 3-point attempt that, one way or another, would decide Sunday night's Section III Class AA championship game at the Carrier Dome between Henninger and Utica Proctor. The shot was right on line - but just a fraction strong, clanging off the rim. And with that, the Black Knights lost, 46-44, to the Raiders, who avenged last year's defeat to Henninger and earned its first sectional title since 2008.
Black Knights to face Proctor again in title game at Dome
For most basketball teams, a 10-0 deficit to start an elimination game, in any round, would be a major concern. Not with the Henninger Black Knights, though, who shook off that poor start and fought to a 54-49 victory over Fayetteville-Manlius in Thursday night's Section III Class AA semifinal at Le Moyne College.
Atoms avenge two regular-season defeats to Eagles
Two regular-season losses to your in-city rival vanish quickly from the mind when you’re able to beat that team in the post-season, when it matters most. No. 5 seed Syracuse Academy of Science, after dropping a pair of games to no. 4 seed Institute of Technology Central earlier this winter, advanced to the Section III Class C boys basketball semifinals with a 76-64 win over the Eagles Friday at Lincoln Middle School.
Young helps Black Knights pull away in late going
For the first 16 minutes of Friday night’s Section III Class AA boys’ basketball quarterfinal final, West Genesee, fresh off a road win over Rome Free Academy in the first round, was able to force defending champion Henninger out of its comfort zone. The no. 10 seed Wildcats, though, ran out of fuel in the end, as the No. 2 Black Knights advanced with a 72-51 win thanks to stellar paint play from senior forward Marquies Young in the fourth quarter.
Henninger is no. 2 seed in Class AA title defense
Some notable changes are part of the 2012 edition of the Section III boys basketball playoffs, chief among them the fact that the finals, on March 4, will all be played at the Carrier Dome after a two-year stint at Utica Memorial Auditorium. What hasn't changed, though, are the aspirations of all five Syracuse city schools, including Henninger, who looks to repeat the AA title it won a year ago in an overtime classic over Utica Proctor.
Win secures league title, regular-season sweep of Atoms
It is said that a rivalry never turns full-blooded until both sides have found success. If so, then the boys basketball saga of Syracuse's two smaller high-school powers, Institute of Technology Central and Syracuse Academy of Science, is maturing into something special in a hurry.

Look at most high school basketball teams - say, Jamesville-Dewitt, or Christian Brothers Academy, Liverpool, or West Genesee, or many others. Watch their pre-game routines and rituals. Each of them are different in a small way, but at the same time they're all pretty much the same.
The dirty work — qualifying for the sectional playoffs — is done for the Corcoran boys basketball team. It’s time now for the Cougars to gobble up as many wins as possible to ensure a favorable seed in the upcoming Section III playoffs.
Spinner nets 21 points in 62-55 win over Raiders
Maybe the Henninger and Utica Proctor boys’ basketball teams like each so much they just have to spend more time together. For the second time in three games, the Black Knights and the Raiders needed overtime to settle the issue. Henninger got the win Friday night, 62-55, on its home court. The Black Knights also captured the other overtime tilt, in last March's Section III Class AA final at Utica Memorial Auditorium.

On a roster dotted with oodles of young talent, it was a cagey veteran that led Bishop Ludden past Bishop Grimes 63-53 this past Friday night on Grimes’ home floor in East Syracuse.
Black Knights edge Nottingham, rout Corcoran in finals
Now it's a routine for the Henninger boys basketball team - to not just contend for league and sectional championship honors each winter, but in late December go to Le Moyne College and pick up the big trophy as the champions of the Mayor's Roundball Classic. It's now six consecutive years that the Black Knights has won bragging rights among Syracuse's larger city high schools, the title earned again Thursday night as Henninger pulled away from Corcoran in a 65-41 victory.
Late comeback against AA champs falls just short
Charging down the stretch, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys basketball team made it difficult for Henninger on Thursday night, but could not quite complete the rally. Instead, the Black Knights held on to beat the Northstars, 59-54, in a clash of the last two Section III Class AA champions. This put a halt to CNS's three-game win streak.
Well, it’s a two-sided rivalry now. Syracuse Academy of Science had beaten its city neighbor, Institute of Technology Central, in all five boys basketball games the two relatively new schools played against each other, dating back to the 2009-10 season.
